It’s a well-documented psychological trait – some women are powerfully attracted to the ‘bad boy,’ the rebellious guy who sneers at social norms. The phenomenon has been the topic of songs, one of them by The Crystals: ‘He’s a rebel and he’ll never ever be any good.’
In film, the archetypes have included James Dean and Marlon Brando, but the ultimate real-life bad boy was Fidel Castro’s murderous henchman Che Guevara, still a darling of some lefties. This is nothing new, and we’ll even wager that some 5th-century European women secretly wanted to call Attila their hon.
