Adapted from Bill O'Reilly's historical thriller Killing the Rising Sun, with characteristically gripping storytelling, this story explores the decision to use the atom bomb and the end of World War II in the Pacific.
Autumn 1944. World War II is nearly over in Europe, but in the Pacific, American soldiers face an enemy who will not surrender, despite a massive and mounting death toll. Meanwhile, in Los Alamos, New Mexico, Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer and his team of scientists are preparing to test the deadliest weapon known to mankind. Newly inaugurated president Harry Truman faces the most important political decision in history: whether to use that weapon.
Bill O'Reilly is a former high-school history teacher and the author of many bestselling books, including Lincoln's Last Days and Hitler's Last Days. He anchored The O'Reilly Factor for more than 20 years, the highest-rated cable news show in the country. BillOReilly.com

I have read all your Killing series books, except your last one "Killing England", and I got that one on order. "The Day the World Went Nuclear" book is among the top. I am 85 years old and remember WWll very well. I am also a veteran of the Korean War. I can relate to all your Killing books concerning WWll, and I think your "Nuclear" book was right among the best. Thank you for bringing the history of America back. I have learned more of what actually happened from your books than I ever learned in my history classes while in high school. Thank you again, and keep up the good work.

This book is touted as being the children's companion book to "Killing the Rising Sun", but any adult will enjoy this history book just as much as many children. I've read all the "killing" series books, and Killing the Rising Sun was one of my favorites. This companion is a great read, as well!!

I have bought my 14 year old grandson every companion children's book for this series. He loves them! I was encouraged when I asked him, at about 10, if he had read the Lincoln's Last Days book I got him. His very enthusiastic response was "my best book ever"!! Money well spent! Can't wait to hear what he thinks of this one! I read the Lincoln book, just to see what changes were made, and I found it as interesting as my Killing Lincoln & very age appropriate. Thank you for taking the time to write these books for children. They should be used in the classroom!
